I never thought I’d love exercise.
Last year I decided to just start. I signed up for a gym, bought 12 weeks of personal training sessions, went to spin classes with my best friend, and started using a Couch to 5K app. I did great – at first – then I got discouraged. I wasn’t running fast enough. I was stuck on a certain week on C25K that I just couldn’t beat. I wanted minimal effort with huge results and I would use any little reason not to work out. Once my personal training sessions ended, I quit going to the gym for several months.
In November, something changed. A light went off. I realized if I showed up, that was half the battle. Once I walked through the door at the gym everything was fine. I completed Couch to 5K. I was (am) slow, but I completed it. I signed up for a 5K race in May with my best friend to keep myself motivated. I run 4-5 times a week. I go to spin class every Saturday morning.
I show up, no matter what.
Even if I’m tired. Even if I am not feeling my runs and I end up walking more than running. As time went on, working out became natural and part of my daily routine. I feel weird if I don’t exercise.
I found joy in movement.
