Y’all, my life HAS CHANGED.
I was serious when I decided this year would be about budgeting and eliminating debt but I never imagined we would stop living paycheck to paycheck, have an Emergency Fund (that we used and then REFILLED!!!), and be ready for big charges in the future.
That is where You Need A Budget (YNAB) comes in.
In March, Kyla posted in her Facebook group about using YNAB and I was immediately interested by the name alone. Plus, I may or may not have had a love for trying out budgeting software. Notice that past tense in there? Yeah, that’s because I am never looking at another piece of budgeting software again. #sorrynotsorry
By the end of the day, I was downloading their software on a 34 day trial and devouring their videos. I learned about the Four Rules and threw every. single. thing. I ever learned budgeting out the window.
At the end of the 34 days, you better believe I bought myself a copy of their software. I told everyone I knew about it, too. My husband is so over listening to me obsess (in the best way – it is like a game!) over our budget but he sweetly plays along. Thank you, babe!
Within 3 months of using YNAB, we had a fully funded Emergency Fund. Something we were never able to do before. At the end of month three, it turned out we needed to use that money when we unexpectedly needed to buy Health Insurance.
You guys, we had to pay over $500 with a 15 day notice. Like, what?! We would have been screwed without YNAB. Instead of sweating it, I simply whined about how expensive health insurance is for five seconds and then paid the bill. Done.
That was a little over a month ago and you wouldn’t even know we dipped into the fund because the money has already been replaced. This is where I flex my muscles like I did something special, but really, I was just following the budget!
Before YNAB, I was decent at budgeting. All of our bills were paid on time and everything we needed to survive was there, but that left over money had no job. It had no special place to go. So we could just spend spend spend until – whoops – we were -$.10 in our bank account. Now? Pshhhh. That is a thing of the past! We have never even come close to zeroing out our account AND I AM SO HAPPY I COULD DIE.
Okay, maybe I am being a little over-dramatic but I am seriously over-the-moon about this company and their software.
By the way, You Need A Budget did not in any way, shape, or form ask me to make this post. I just love it so much and since I am calling myself a Budgeting Queen~* these days, I decided I should probably let you in on my favorite secret weapon.
